Hello world! I hope you love my blog!

If you are reading this, and you have no idea what I am talking about, you should read my previous post.

Answers to deep thinking Questions:

I think that if Alice took another bite of the right side of the mushroom, it would make her chin touch her foot again, but I think it would make more sense if it made her exactly the same height she should be.  I think this because when she took a bite of the left side after she had taken a bite of the right, she grew very tall.  It doesn’t seem to matter what height you already are, but how much of the mushroom you eat.  It makes most sense this way.  Why I think it would make more sense if she went back to her normal size is because earlier in the book, she drank a cup of something, than, when she ate the cake, she went back to her normal size.  I think it would have made the most sense if this happened with the mushroom, but nothing makes sense in Wonderland.

I think it is a good thing that Alice is young and hasn’t learned much yet because if she were an educated adult who had a job in the field of science, and he was in Wonderland, he might be very freaked out, scared, and confused.  Alice believes anything is possible, and that is a thing you have to have to survive in Wonderland.  If an adult went to Wonderland, they would think it was a dream, do something “normal”, and get the Queen angry.  Wonderland is something kids probably dream about, and would not question anyone who said it was real.  Adults think that that isn’t possible at all, and would start a whole argument with anyone who said Wonderland was real.

So far in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,  Alice has done many things.  Now, she is having tea with the mad hatter, the march hare, And the dormouse.  She doesn’t seem to think it is strange at all that animals are suddenly talking, or that things are constantly, magically disappearing and changing.

I am constantly confused by the characters in this book, but I think that is supposed to happen.  I think this because since the book is from Alice’s point of view (even though she isn’t the narrator), you are supposed to experience everything how she experienced it, so you will understand the story better.

Some deep thinking questions I had on these last few chapters were:

What do you think would happen if Alice took another bite of the right side of the mushroom?  Why do you think this?  Defend your position. – ? Synthesis

And:  Do you think it is a good or a bad thing that Alice is young when she goes into Wonderland, and not very smart, that she believes anything is possible?  Explain.- ? Evaluation

I am reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.  I am excited about the new movie that has come out and hope to finish the book so I will have a background before I watch the movie.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is about a girl who follows a white rabbit down a hole into a place called Wonderland.  Nothing in Wonderland is “right”, and everything is very confusing to Alice.

The book doesn’t fit with anything I know.  It is truly fantasy, and many unbelievable things happen in this book.  It isn’t regular fantasy with wizards and dragons, but it has talking caterpillars and card people.  It is an odd book, but a wonderful classic.

I was able to make some connections, but not many because many of the things in the book I have never even heard of before.  Some of the connections I did make were to the normal things.  They were:

Alice reminds me og my dog, Ruby, becuase they are both very lazy.  I thought this becuase Ruby likes to Bask in the sun, and sometimes, when you throw her a ball, she will just lay down and watch it drop.  It is amusing, but it proves the point that she is lazy.  Alice wonders if making a daisy chain will be worth picking all the daisies.  To me, that is very lazy.

————————————————————————————————————————–

Dinah, Alice’s cat, reminds me of the ICC song “No ones in the house but Dinah” because since Alice isn’t there, Dinah is probably alone in the house.  I thought this because the song holds true for the story, and I made the same connection to White Fang.

Something that surprised me about this book was that the Sorensons aren’t believing that anything could happen.  They know that things are magical, when they are thought by ordinary humans to be ordinary animals.  They know that people aren’t always who they say they are, because a stingbulb of Kendra died.  They had a funeral for her, and when Seth left, he found that Kendra had just been captured.  Why were they surprised when, since they thought their Grandma and Grandpa Larson had died in a fire in their trailer, they showed up on their doorstep a year later, thought to be dead?  I infer that they were so surprised when they found out that they weren’t dead because it was all so sudden.  They were probably also surprised because they didn’t think their other grandparents knew about magic, and it was before Kendra and Seth knew about magic, too.  When they had “died”, they never considered that some magical thing had interfered because they didn’t know magic existed.

Also, When are the prisoners going to try to start a riot to break out and get free?  I am worried that they will do that exactly when the others come to rescue them.  I infer, since the book still has a lot more pages, that it might all happen at the same time and mess everything up.

Fablehaven 5 really reminds me of the two books from the Moon & Sun series, with the “Ruby Key” and the “Silver Door”.  They were very alike because they both are fantasy, about magic, and have a brother and a sister working together (Genna and Dan).  One of the only few differences is that Dan isn’t magical.  Genna, however, is the Sun Rider of legend.  She has walked on the moonroads, and heard their calling.  Dan has, too, but it isn’t the same…

Kendra Fablehaven 5 remind me of myself because she is very reliable, and very trusted.  Being given powers by the fairy queen, she is powerful, faeries have to obey her orders.  I also would be very reliable, responsible, and trustworthy.  Another reason she reminds me of myself is because she is the kind of person who thinks of the worst thing that could happen.  I think the only reason she does this is because things that usually happen to her are the worst things that could have ever happened.  An elf betrayed her and her family, so they are now prisoners of the Sphinx.  I have no reason to think worst case scenario, but I do.  I am afraid of heights because I always think I will fall down and die.  I don’t know why I think these things.  I just do.  But we are different in many ways.

Most of you people reading this will have probably never heard of this book at all.  What I have to say about it, is that it is amazing!  However unknown it might be.

You probably shouldn’t read the rest of this blog post unless you have already read it or want to know the whole entire plot line of the book.  That would probably spoil this fantastic book for you. So, that is your …WARNING!!!
Fablehaven 5  is about a girl named Kendra, and her brother, names Seth who have magical powers.  Kendra is the chosen fairy apprentice, and Seth is a shadow charmer.  Their powers are nearly exact opposites, but they are both attempting to use them for good.  Now, they are trying to collect the 5 keys to the demon prison, Zzyxx, by finding the hidden artifacts in the magical preserves.

They went to a preserve.  The artifact there is hidden within the depths of the Dreamstone.  They go into it, but once you go in, you can’t come back out.  So, their only hope is the artifact.  It is called the Translocator, and it is said to have the power to transport you to anywhere you have been before in your life. They pass through many challenges inside the dreamstone to get to the translocator.  Finally, when they get to the translocator, their enemies are right there behind them.  Seth is shot by an arrow coming from, and taken prisoner by the Spinx along with Mara and someone else.

Kendra and the others go back in time using the Chronometer.  They visit Patton, and he tells them that their best lead, since the Society of the Evening star has the Oculus, is to protect the 5 eternals.

Something I found surprising about this series is that the villan isn’t a normal villan.  He is kind, and thoughtful.  He is a shadow charmer – like Seth, but they are different.  Even though the Sphinx may be evil, he is good at convincing people that he is right.  He might even be right!  He makes you feel strange.  You want to like him and be nice to him and join his side, but you know it is wrong.  He is immortal, so he has an advantage, but the reason he is immortal is because of his 3rd and last unicorn horn.  If Seth could steal it for a week, replace it with a fake, and switch them in another week, the Sphinx would die, and nobody would know why!  That sounds like something he could do!

Adora Svitak is a 12-year-old girl who is an author of some childrens books.

She was 4 when she started reading books, and 6 when she started writing.  Her parents got her a laptop, and she started a blog and wrote hundreds of small stories.   Her parents really believed in her.  They were positive and encouraged her to keep doing what she was doing.  When she was younger, they read her hard books, and many other things.

Now, she is 12 and has published “Flying Fingers”, a book she wrote herself.  She has grown to be well known, and gave a speech on “Ted Talks”.  It was about children and adults.  The first part was how the word “childish” was used.  She said that it doesn’t fit, or make sense, because you are considered childish when you do something wrong, or immature.

She said some things that were children, and adults’ faults.  She said that George Bush and World Wars were the faults of adults.  She said that Anne Frank’s Diary and what Ruby Bridges did were the faults of kids.  She explained again, how childish was not the word to describe kids, but adults.

Then, she talked about how amazing children were.  She said that children don’t stop believing.  They don’t stop trying to come up with ideas to perfect the world, and some of those ideas are worth hearing.  Adults stop dreaming, because they think their dreams are impossible.  They don’t believe it could happen, but kids do.  Anything is possible.  That is how we children think.  We know that you it will never happen if you don’t believe it of dream it.

She thinks that adults should be the ones learning from kids.  She know that we have big ideas that adults may never hear or know if they don’t trust kids enough to listen to them

“Night Boat to Freedom” is about a boy named Christmas John and Granny Judith.  They are slaves, and the only thing keeping them from freedom is the river that separates Kentucky and Ohio.  There is a boat that takes slaves across the river in the night.

One night, Granny Judith says that Christmas John should go on it.  He becomes the driver of the boat instead.

Another night, Christmas John says that Granny Judith should come on the boat to get safely to freedom.  She says that she is too old, but he convinces her.

That night,  there are lots of slaves crossing the river.  People have come out searching with their dogs, and they can hear howling nearby.  They cautiously cross the river.  And, when they get to land, they are free!

“Night Boat to Freedom” reminds me of another book I have started called “Freedom Crossing”.  They are both about slaves that try to get to freedom.  Both of the slaves are young boys.  They both are being chased because it is against the law to run away from your “owner” as a slave.  The difference is that they try to reach freedom using different things.  Christmas John uses a boat across the shared border of Ohio and Kentucky.  In “Freedom Crossing”, they use the Underground Railroad.

Double Identity is about a girl named Bethany.  The book begins when her parents drop he off at an aunt’s house.  She had always thought the only family she had were her mom and dad.  She had a sister that she has never met because her sister died before she was born.

When people see Bethany, they act as if they have seen a ghost.  She has to keep investigating, slowly digging deeper.  It is almost too much when Bethany finds out that she is a clone of her sister, Elizabeth.  She has to find out more…

I once read a book called “White Fang”.  If white Fang had been in that position, he would have done the complete opposite.  He would have just simply accepted that he looked a lot like Elizabeth.  He would just leave the whole subject, and completely forget about it.

If I was in that situation, I would have kept investigating.  But, when I would find out that I was a clone, I would freak out.  I would call the police, but definitely make sure that the information didn’t get out into the public.  If it did, then they would probably freak out too!

It was an amazing book, and I think even people who don’t like Science Fiction at all would find it just as great as I did.

I have just finished a book called “Punished”.   Though I must admit it was an easy read for me, it was really good.

It is about a boy named Logan.

One day, he is playing tag in the library, when a mysterious man says that he needs to be punished.  The man blows dust from a book into his face.  And, suddenly all he can say are puns.  He was pun-ished!

The man gives him a quest.  He has to do this to be able to talk normal again.  First, he has to find 7 oxymorons.  That is a phrase where two parts have opposite meanings.  He successfully completes this part in time, and returns with 7 pictures.

Next, he had to find 7 anagrams.  Those are words that can be arranged differently to form another word.  The hard part was that he had to put them in a bag.  His first word was rat art.  He made his sister draw him a rat.  They weren’t all that simple…  He barely got them all in the bag on time.

Last he had to find 7 palindromes.  Those are words that are spelled the same forwards and backwards.  Those were the hardest to find yet.  He had to fit a rubber band around them.  There were three in his house.  They were “sis, mom, and dad”.

When the bell rang for the end of school, he was almost out of time.   He finished 5 minutes late.  But, the man still relieved him from his punishment, and he was free to go.

Logan changed throughout the book because he learned a lot.  He learned to respect adults, and libraries.  He also learned a lot about words.  He learned what oxymoron, anagrams, and palindromes were.  His experiences throughout the book made him become wiser.

This is the dust being blown into Logans face, what started it in the first place.

This is the dust being blown into Logan's face, what started it in the first place.
